AUGUST NEWSLETTER
To be reformed through the Word of God
May the name of the Almighty God be exalted.
Greetings to all in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
As we begin the month of August, our theme is "To be reformed through the Word
of God." Let us reflect on the verse from 1 John 2:17, which reminds us that the
world and its desires are passing away, but those who do the will of God live
forever.
During the first fifteen days of this month, we observe the Lenten period in
remembrance of the dedicated life of Virgin Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus
Christ. Her commitment and obedience to God serve as a model for all of us. Let us
aspire to echo her words, "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me
according to your word" (Luke 1:38). Mary's song also calls us to seek reformation,
proclaiming the mighty works of God, who uplifts the humble and fills the hungry.
The history of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church shows how the process of
Malankara Reformation brought us closer to the Word of God. It cleansed the
Church from non-scriptural and non-traditional practices that had accumulated
over time. The reformers led us into the light of freedom, rooted in our identity as
an Eastern Church rather than a Protestant one.
As we celebrate India's independence in August, we cannot ignore the painful
memories of our brothers and sisters in Manipur who have faced persecution and
loss of lives and belongings. As a Christian community, we have a responsibility to
respond to their suffering. Our Karunya-Parish Mission is coordinating efforts to
extend help to those in need in Manipur, and we invite anyone willing to
contribute to remit your donations to the Karunya account.

Towards the end of August, we celebrate our cultural day in the context of the
Onam celebration. This occasion gives us an opportunity to reflect on the history of
marginalized people in Kerala. Harvest represents hope for a new age, overcoming
painful pasts, and the vision of a new heaven and new earth. Let us remember the
generations who toiled in the soil, building the nation and sacrificing their lives for
its freedom.
I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you for your
dedication and enthusiasm in learning the scriptures and liturgy through the
‘Scripture Bee’. It has provided us with a wonderful platform to engage with the
scriptures in a meaningful way, and I am delighted to see the passion with which
you have embraced it.
I would like to request your support and participation in the forthcoming Senior
Sunday School Camp, scheduled to take place at the end of September. This camp
promises to be an enriching experience, providing opportunities for fellowship,
learning, and spiritual rejuvenation. So I request to the parents to encourage your
children from Year 7 onwards to be a part of this camp. It will undoubtedly be a
transformative experience for them, fostering their spiritual growth and
strengthening their foundation in faith.
On a joyful note, I extend a warm welcome to our newly baptized babies, Josiah
Jacob (son of Jerin & Merin) and Hazel Elsa Sumod (daughter of Sumod & Rincy).
Also, we welcome new members and families, Yohann & Swetha, Bobin & Shimi,
Anit & Rina, Jerry Jacob John, and Ajay Jacob Alexander. May the Lord bless them
abundantly on their journey ahead.
May this month of August be a time of reflection, reformation, and compassion as
we live according to the Word of God and walk in His ways.
May the name of the Almighty God be exalted.

Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We are one month into Term 3, and it is very pleasing to see our children’s faces and enthusiasm
in classes and during Worship as they interact with each other. We Pray that God will continue to
guide us through this term.
Updates and Upcoming Events:
Food Sale – 30 July 2023
On behalf of the Sunday School camp organisers Jobby Mathew and Bindhu George, a big thank
you for all your efforts to help with the food sale whether in food preparation, cooking, sale, or
purchase of items sold on the day. We were completely sold out and all indications were that
the food sale was a huge success by God’s Grace alone. We are so grateful to each one of you
for enabling us to be able to conduct a camp focused on building up our children for God’s
kingdom. Your support will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on their spiritual journey, and we
are truly thankful for your dedication to our shared mission. Please continue to hold the camp
and the Sunday School children and teachers in your prayers.

Christ through Life's Crossroads," promises an enriching and meaningful experience
for all participants. The camp will offer our children from Grades 7 and above, with a
unique and transformative opportunity to draw closer to Christ and foster meaningful
connections with one another. Our dedicated team has been working tirelessly to
craft an unforgettable experience, engaging activities, thought-provoking discussions,
uplifting worship sessions and engaging with external speakers for our children to
navigate and find their identity in Christ.
Registration for the camp will be open until 20th August 2023 so kindly register early
so as not to miss out on this fantastic opportunity! For any inquiries or more
information, please feel free to reach out to your child's Sunday School teacher. We
look forward to witnessing our young members grow in their faith and create lasting
memories during this camp. Let's come together as a church family to support and
encourage them on their path of spiritual discovery.

Sunday School Initiative:
We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all our children
understanding that some children may need additional support systems in place to
engage with during the service or their Sunday School classes.
We have put together a small tub of sensory toys that is available for the children
who require them in the office of the church.
If you feel that your child may need a sensory toy to help them, please feel free to
borrow a toy and return it at the conclusion of the service or class.

Our Church has been operating under the Victorian Child Safe Standards that
came into effect from July 1st, 2022. The MMTC Framework for Child Safety
and Wellbeing, given below, has been developed to comply with the Child Safe
standards.
The three main processes to support our Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy are
the Recruitment of Volunteers, Risk Assessment and Management, and
Incident /Complaints Management. This framework was endorsed by the
General body in September last year and has been in effect since then. It is
now time to review our Framework and associated Policy and Procedures. All
members are invited to view documents and provide any feedback to the
Parish Child Safety Officer via email [email protected] on or before
Friday June 30th, 2023. Files can be accessed here.
